Shanghai to Unveil 4G Handsets

Oriental Morning Post, 4/11/08

Shou Ziqi, chair of the Shanghai Science and Technology Committee, revealed yesterday that 4G mobile handsets with 100Mbps download speeds are soon to be revealed.

Wang Jing, a member of the 863 Program's Telecom Sector Experts Group, explained that a live testing system with 4G mobile telecom features has been completed, and six base stations have been put in place. Four of these are in built-up areas, with two on elevated highways. Speeds of 100Mbps can be achieved in 90% of areas covered, allowing the broadcast of multiple HDTV channels and high-definition video calls.
