TD-SCDMA Tests to Include M-Zone Users

Tencent Tech, 4/14/08

A source with knowledge of the situation has revealed that following the conclusion of China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) first round of public TD-SCDMA testing in April, the company plans to expand the scope of its test. The second phase of testing will likely target 100,000 or more 'friendly users,' particularly a number of campus users of the company's pay-as-you-go, youth-oriented M-Zone plan. In addition to providing handsets, China Mobile has also provided RMB 800 in call fee compensation per month - a policy also suited to use in the second phase of TD-SCDMA trials. However, the compensation to be received by M-Zone campus users has been set for the moment at RMB 400.

According to one expert's predictions, China Mobile's second phase of public TD-SCDMA testing will begin in May.
