ZTE Secures Second TD-SCDMA Network Access Permit

China Business News, 4/14/08

A TD-SCMDA products manager at ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) has revealed that the company's second TD-SCDMA phone has been awarded a network access permit. ZTE's' first approved TD-SCDMA phone, the U980, reportedly accounts for one-third of all China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) TD-SCMDA handset sales so far.

Of the six TD-SCDMA handsets currently on the market, the U980 is the only dual-mode, dual-standby device - although the other five can automatically switch between GSM and TD-SCDMA, they are still dual-mode, single-standby phones.
