A source says that chip manufacturer Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) (NYSE: SMI, 0981.HK) has successfully attracted a major American private equity fund to make a strategic investment of USD 600 mln in exchange for more than a 20% share of SMIC stock. The agreement will be signed in late June, at the earliest.
