Datang to Release TD-HSDPA Handsets in 2008

China Business News, 6/19/08

An insider at Chinese mobile communications technology company Datang Mobile has said that the company is working on solutions for 2.8 Mbps TD-HSDPA terminals, with prototypes due in September and handsets to be on the market by the end of the year. The source added that handset manufacturers "ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), LG and Inventec are also working on similar devices." A TD-SCDMA handset executive with ZTE confirmed the company does have plans along these lines, and a spokesperson for LG China said that these devices are already under development, with a release expected before the end of the year.

Of the five currently available TD-SCDMA packages, the RMB 28, RMB 58 and RMB 88 voice tariffs include only 10MB of data per month. The RMB 100 and RMB 200 options include 2GB and 5GB.
