Tencent to Sell Mobile Advertisements

Tencent Tech, 6/26/08

Industry sources have revealed that Chinese Internet and mobile value-added service provider Tencent (0700.HK) will sell advertisements on its suite of mobile products (QQ mobile chat, QQ's mobile website, QQ Lovewall, and QQ Yinxin).

A source at Mobile QQ explained "advertisements on Mobile QQ can be placed in the form of pictures, flashing screens, scrolling text, Sudoku and more." When a user registers at Mobile QQ, for instance, a flashing advertisement might be displayed on their screen. QQ is apparently placing 2 mln "graphical advertisements, flashing screen adverts, registration reminders, and search advertisements" each day, along with 5.1 mln daily scrolling advertisements placed in Sudoku and Qzone.

Tencent's QQ currently has 780 mln registered users, and 310 mln active accounts. Mobile QQ has 1.9 bln page views per day and over 10 mln daily users.
