MIIT Announces Plan for Function, Personnel and Structure

At a videoconference held yesterday by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), MIIT minister Li Yizhong announced a new plan for the ministry under which the MIIT will bear primary responsibility for 15 duties and establish 24 departments, of which eight will pertain to information industry management and the promotion of informatization, employing a planned 599 workers, or 731 when factoring in retiring and retired cadres.

Li Yizhong called for active promotion of commercial trials of TD-SCDMA, and implementation of other reforms to the telecommunications system.
