Lenovo Mobile Sets 2008 Production Target

The Beijing News, 7/11/08

Yesterday at Lenovo Mobile's video strategy conference, Lenovo Mobile general manager Lu Yan stated that the company had reached profitability in the first quarter of the year, and now commands 4% of the domestic market. In 2008, Lenovo Mobile plans to introduce 50 phone models, in order to achieve shipments of 8 mln units and also achieve overall profitability. Lenovo Mobile lost RMB 133 mln in 2007.

In order to achieve its goals, Lenovo Mobile plans to concentrate on made-to-order ultra low-cost mobile devices (handsets priced in the hundreds of RMB), along with the production of video-capable handsets priced over RMB 1500. The company has already produced video-capable handsets that support the TD-SCDMA and CMMB standards. It plans to release a dual-mode TD-SCDMA/CMMB handset prior to the Olympics.
