Beijing Mobile Begins Real-name SIM Card Sales

Beijing Morning Post, 7/27/08

Starting July 25, users who sign up for pay-as-you-go Shenzhouxing mobile phone numbers at major Beijing Mobile outlets will have to provide personal identification, and will be barred from purchasing more than three phone numbers across all Beijing Mobile sub-brands except for Olympic cards or International Olympic cards. A spokesperson from Beijing Mobile has stated that implementation of the real-name system will begin in Beijing Mobile outlets and gradually be expanded to other sales channels.
