China Telecom Evaluates CDMA Bids, Plans EV-DO Trials

From August 4-13, nearly a hundred China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) experts evaluated CDMA equipment from Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei, ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Nortel, Motorola and Samsung, who were bidding on network equipment and terminal contracts. Results from the bidding are expected soon.

Following this round of bidding, China Telecom plans to conduct EV-DO network construction tests in two to three cities per province nationwide. Investment in EV-DO this year and next will be primarily experimental in nature, with the results of the tests determining China Telecom';s next step in its deployment of the technology.
