China Mobile H1 2008 Profit up 45%

Chinese mobile operator China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) has announced its interim results for H1 2008, with operating revenues reaching RMB 196.5 bln, up 18% year-on-year.

Profit attributable to shareholders came to RMB 54.8 bln, up 44.7% YoY.

During the period, revenue from usage fees came to RMB 124.4 bln, up 15.5% YoY. Revenue from monthly fees came to RMB 9.8 bln, down 3.2% YoY. Revenue from value-added services (VAS) came to RMB 53 bln, up 26.4% YoY, and revenue from other operations came to RMB 9.2 bln, up 35.4% YoY.

China Mobile's capital expenditure for the first half of 2008 was approximately RMB 65.5 bln, representing 33.3% of operating revenue, and was mainly used for the construction of GSM networks, business system support, transmission facilities, infrastructure buildings and for the development of new technologies and new businesses.
