Wingtech Handset Line Begins Production

Chinese mobile handset manufacturer the Wingtech Group announced yesterday that the company's new handset production base has officially begun production. The base covers an area of approximately 200 acres in the city of Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, and constitutes a total investment of USD 70 mln. The first phase of the base will primarily include surface mount technology (SMT) and assembly lines, with secondary facilities for injection molding, model design and processing. Production lines for components such as LCDs will also be created. Yearly production is expected to exceed 30 mln units, with an annual value of RMB 10 bln.
Wingtech's manufacturing base will also provide manufacturing services for mobile phone handsets and accessories. Zhang Xuezheng, CSO at Wingtech Group, revealed recently that after construction is completed, the production base will shorten development and delivery cycles for mobile phone handsets from a 7-day cycle this year to 3 days next year. The second phase of construction is currently in the planning stage.
Wingtech also plans to launch a GSM mobile phone priced at RMB 100 within the next six months.
