ZTE Releases PHS Spectrum TD-SCDMA Base Station

Tencent Tech, 11/03/08

Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) recently launched a TD-SCDMA base station that supports A-band frequencies (1880-1920MHz). The equipment has passed relevant functional testing, and can now be used on a portion of the spectrum currently in use by PHS band (1800-1900MHz) mobile phones.

Editor's Note: The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has allocated the spectrum that is currently in use by PHS services to China Mobile for TD-SCDMA development and is currently moderating between China Telecom and China Netcom to free up the spectrum. For more background, please see "China Mobile Given Priority on Spectrum Allocation", MD 10/09/08 issue.
