Sina Licenses Couplet Technology from Microsoft

Microsoft Press Release, 1/06/09

Chinese Internet portal and wireless value-added services provider Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) has licensed technology from software firm Microsoft that will allow it to provide a service to automatically generate Chinese couplets. Chinese couplets are a popular type of poetry that contains two sentences and a short cross phrase, and are commonly posted on door frames, especially during the Chinese New Year. A user can send an SMS containing the first sentence of the couplet to Sina's couplet server, and they will receive an automatically generated reply containing an appropriate second sentence.
