MIIT: China Produces 147 mln Computers in 2008

Shanghai Evening Post, 2/04/09

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released statistics for China's electronics manufacturing industry recently showing that China produced 147 mln computers last year, achieving period-on-period growth of 14%, and accounting for half of the 300 mln computers sold worldwide in 2008. The majority of these were exported owing to relatively low domestic consumption. The total value of China's electronics manufacturing industry grew 12% year-on-year in 2008, or 6 percentage points slower than the previous year, while export transaction value grew 10.2%, down 9.4 percentage points from the previous year.
