CDMA Handset Sales Hit New Highs over Holiday

Sohu IT, 2/06/09

A source inside China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) has revealed that CDMA handset sales during the Chinese New Year period (January 25-31) hit new highs with average daily sales volume reaching 60,000 units. Certain models even sold out of stock, leading to manufacturers ramping up output.

China Telecom originally hoped it would take 2-3 years for CDMA phones to become widespread, however handsets are selling faster than expected and the company now forecasts this will occur by the latter half of this year. Presently China Telecom is encouraging manufacturers and national and provincial distributors to coordinate on sales.
