Shanda, Storm to Cooperate on Gaming

Sina Tech, 2/12/09

A source with knowledge of the situation has revealed that Chinese online game developer and operator Shanda (Nasdaq: SNDA) is in talks over the operation of games developed by Shanghai Storm. Both parties have essentially reached a consensus, with an official announcement expected shortly. The model will be similar to that recently announced by Shanda and game developer Kingsoft (3888.HK), although the source did not provide further details. Storm's CEO, Zhu Weilian, was previously a VP at Shanda.

Editor's Note: In mid-January, Kingsoft and Shanda announced that Shanda's online game operating subsidiary, Shanda Games (SDG), would operate games developed by Kingsoft, with Kingsoft also continuing to operate the games. In addition, Shanda's online gaming platform subsidiary, Shanda Online (SDO), would open its unified billing, customer service and call center platform to support operation of the games.
