Baidu Starts Re-indexing Taobao

Sohu IT, 3/15/09

Chinese online search firm Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has quietly resumed crawling and indexing Chinese online B2C and C2C site Taobao. Statistics show Baidu has already indexed 132,000 Taobao pages. On March 10, Baidu only indexed Taobao's main page.

In September 2008 Taobao blocked Baidu from crawling its site in an effort to prevent sellers from abusing search optimization and keyword ranking techniques to defraud users. A spokesperson for Taobao said the company is still blocking Baidu's spiders. Baidu also did not provide a reason as to why Baidu is now indexing Taobao pages.
