Tech Sina, 3/19/09

Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) (NYSE: SMI, 0981.HK) president Richard Chang revealed that the semiconductor foundry will spin off its solar energy and assembly and test services to establish SMIC Energy and Siltech, respectively. Within the next 1 to 3 years, both companies are expected to list independently, either in China or abroad. Once spun off, SMIC will focus on semiconductor wafer manufacturing outsourcing, and hopes to begin profitability in Q4 of this year.
