Nortel China Starts Large-Scale Layoffs

Nortel China's Corporate Networks department is to lay off 60% of its staff, with redundancy payments of one month's salary. The information was announced at a small-scale departmental meeting.

According to one employee, the department originally had about 400 employees, but almost half are to leave after March 31. There are rumors that 100 of the Research and Development department's 500 staff are also to be let go.
