Beijing Mobile Trials Low-cost 3G Data Package

Tencent Tech, 4/23/09

Beijing Mobile has introduced trials of a new data package for TD-SCDMA 3G data services costing RMB 560 for seven months. Traffic volume is unlimited within Beijing, and a further 350 MB is provided free of charge when roaming. Users need to visit a Beijing Mobile outlet to purchase a new SIM card for the service, which must be returned to the company at the end of the trials. Customers subscribing to the service will also be able to purchase a 3G data card at the discounted price of RMB 240. Under the package, the monthly bandwidth allowance can be used either through the SIM card or external data card, but is not available for use with netbooks that contain embedded cards.

Editor's Note: China Mobile's GPRS packages currently include: RMB 5 per month for 30MB; RMB 20 for 150MB; RMB 50 for 500MB; RMB 100 for 2GB; RMB 200 for 5GB. The standard fee for data transfer is RMB 0.01/KB. Previously it was rumored that China Mobile plans to offer an RMB 300/month data package comprising 10 GB of bandwidth.
