China to Provide Tech Industry RMB 20 Bln in Subsidies

According to a new decision announced by China's State Council, the central government will provide RMB 20 bln in technological innovation funds in 2009, primarily as loan interest subsidies.

The focus of the funds will be to support the research, development, and production of next-generation mobile communication equipment, computers, Internet advertising applications, and software and information services including integrated circuit design, advanced production line development, innovations in the color television and display industries, as well as TD-SCDMA. The new program is expected to spur investments of RMB 460 bln.
