China Unicom Plans 3G Portal

A source at China Unicom (NYSE: CHU, 0762.HK) has revealed that the company will establish a "Unicom 3G Portal" to be used as an added-value service platform for users. The platform will provide content including news, novels, and blogging, as well as downloadable components including games, software, and images. A technician at Beijing Unicom stated that the platform will be similar to China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL, 0941.HK) Monternet. According to China Unicom, when users log in to the 3G portal, they will not be charged any related bandwidth fees.

An employee at China Unicom stated that of the 27 WCDMA handset models to be released on May 17, 11 will be priced between RMB 1,500 and RMB 2,500, with another 17 models to be released by the end of June.
