Rumor: China Mobile to Build 108K WLAN Hotspots

According to an internal bidding memo from China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, 0941.HK), the company will construct 108,000 new WLAN hotspots in 2009. An informed source stated that the equipment will support both the Wi-Fi and WAPI standards.

Another internal document reveals that China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC) plans to establish special project funding for each province in 2009 to intensify TD-SCDMA and Wi-Fi network construction.
