SAIC to Strike on Illegal Internet Cafes

Beijing Times, 5/20/09

China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) has announced stricter enforcement measures for illegal Internet cafes located on the outskirts of cities, in rural areas, and near schools. The SAIC will confiscate all tools and equipment owned by illegal Internet cafe operators, and will assess heavy fines on firms providing Internet access services or rental space to the illegal cafes. Details of illegal cafes will be registered, and the SAIC will also conduct follow-up investigations to ensure the illegal cafes do not restart business.
