Microsoft Launches Chinese Version of Search Engine

Beijing Business Today, 6/01/09

As part of the global launch of its new search engine "Bing", software giant Microsoft has introduced a Chinese version of the site. The Chinese version, called "Biying", has been designed to cater to the needs of Chinese users and will offer local map searches and public transport information. Currently the Chinese search engine market is dominated by Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) and Google.

An industry source has also revealed that Microsoft has purchased the domain name biying.com for a price of approximately RMB 200,000. Microsoft has already taken control of the domain, although it has not officially put it to use.
