China Telecom to Procure 3 Mln 3G Handsets in July

Ma Daojie, general manager of China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) subsidiary Tianyi Telecom Terminal, revealed today that this July the company will purchase over RMB 3 bln in 3G handsets from four national distributors. China P&T Appliances (PTAC) subsidiary China P&T Communications Equipment Co., Ltd., Telling Communications, Shenzhen Aisidi, and China Putian subsidiary Beijing Putian Taili Telecommunication Technology will supply over 3 mln 3G handsets valued at RMB 1,000 each, Ma said at the China Telecom 3G Terminal Supply Chain Summit. Ma also disclosed that China Telecom has activated 3G services in nearly 400 cities and areas across the country.

Wang Xiaochu, chairman and CEO of China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK), disclosed that over 270,000 Tianyi 3G terminals have reached the market, over 100,000 of which have been sold.
