GAPP: WoW to Open Test Server on July 30

Xinhua Net, 7/21/09

A spokesperson for China's General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) has revealed that GAPP has completed inspection work for the 3D MMORPG World of Warcraft (WoW) and, on July 19, passed on recommendations for changes to WoW's operator, Netease (Nasdaq: NTES). WoW developer Blizzard Entertainment is currently working on implementing the changes.

In light of the large amount of player data for the game, and taking into account the interest of several million players, GAPP will permit Netease to begin testing the game from July 30, while Blizzard continues work on the changes. Only players with existing accounts will be allowed to participate in the tests, and during the test period Netease will not be allowed to charge fees or permit new registrations.
