Alibaba to Restructure into Domestic, Overseas Businesses

Chinese B2B e-commerce firm Alibaba.com (1688.HK) will begin corporate restructuring on August 1, including splitting its operations into domestic and international businesses while strengthening cooperation on domestic business with its sister firm Taobao to provide vendors with distribution channels.

Alibaba.com will also establish two new departments, an IT services department to help small-to-medium-sized enterprises upgrade their systems, and an "Ali Institute" to train students and SME employees in e-commerce skills.

David Wei will remain CEO of the company while also taking responsibility for the domestic business, while COO Li Xu will manage the overseas business.
