Oak Pacific Changes Xiaonei's Name to Renren

Evening legal, 8/04/09

Beijing-based Internet business group Oak Pacific Interactive has announced that it will officially change the name of its social-networking site (SNS) property Xiaonei to Renren, meaning "Everyone" (www.renren.com). The name change will not affect users' ability to login, and all user profiles will be seamlessly transitioned to the new domain name. The domain name Xiaonei.com will now redirect users to the new domain.

An informed source said that Oak Pacific could be planning to merge its three SNS properties - Xiaonei, Kaixin, and Mop - into a single website, with the domain change for Xiaonei being the first step. Oak Pacific denied that it had any such plans, saying that it intends to use Renren as the basis for a communications platform, and Kaixin as the basis for an entertainment platform.

Xiaonei.com was founded in 2005, and is home to more than 70 mln users, most of whom are current university students.
