51wan Pays RMB 10 Mln to License Browser Game

Sina Games, 8/04/09

According to an industry source, browser game developer and operator 51wan has spent RMB 10.1 mln to secure the global operating rights for browser game Wulin Chuanqi II. The figure exceeds the previous record for a browser game licensing fee, the RMB 5 mln which Shanda spent last year to win the operating rights for Might and Hero from Beijing-based developer Gamegoo.

The RMB 10.1 mln licensing fee for Wulin Chuanqi II will be split in two parts, a base fee of RMB 5.1 mln, and, if the game generates monthly revenues of over RMB 10 mln, an additional fee of RMB 5 mln. A marketing spokesperson for 51wan confirmed that the two companies would be cooperating on the game, and added that the game would begin closed beta testing on August 11. Wulin Chuanqi II was developed by Shanghai-based Cheer Code Software over a period of 3 years.
