Alibaba Seeks Bing Deal with Microsoft

Sina Tech, 9/12/09

CEO Jack Ma of Hangzhou-based e-commerce company Alibaba said that now that Yahoo and Microsoft have formed a search advertising partnership, Microsoft needs to form a partnership between its new Bing search engine and Alibaba's China Yahoo for search advertising.

Alibaba has not yet decided what the next steps are for China Yahoo's search algorithms; nor has it drafted detailed plans for the matter. A spokesperson for Alibaba said that since the Yahoo-Microsoft partnership was announced, China Yahoo has made no changes to its search algorithms. Jack Ma said that over the coming years, China Yahoo will be further integrated with Alibaba's services, but declined to reveal the direction in which China Yahoo will develop.

Under the terms of Yahoo's agreement with Microsoft, Yahoo's search engine will adopt Microsoft's Bing search technology over the next ten years.
