China Mobile Completes EDGE Network Tests

ChinaNews, 9/22/09

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) has completed testing upgrades to its EDGE network, which will bring network speeds up to 500Kbps from 200Kbps, with a theoretical maximum of 1Mbps exceeding those of the first TD-SCDMA and WCDMA systems. Li Jinliang, executive director of China Mobile Communications Association (CMCA), said that because many China Mobile data cards are TD-SCDMA/EDGE dual-mode cards, the upgrade can effectively make up for gaps in TD-SCDMA coverage.
