Rumor: Sina SNS in Beta, to Merge with Micro-Blog

DoNews, 9/25/09

According to an industry source, Chinese internet company Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) has begun official closed beta testing for a social networking service (SNS) called Zhongle Wang ("Mass Happiness Net"). The source said that Sina's micro-blogging platform at t.sina.com.cn will likely be renamed the same as the new SNS, and be split off to an independent domain name. However, Sina's marketing department has not confirmed the rumor.

Zhongle's domain at www.zll.cn is already connected to Sina's domain name servers. According to DNS industry sources, Sina recently purchased the zhongle.com name from a domain squatter, the sum for which is currently unknown.
