Ren Zhiguo, GM of terminal management at China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) personal customer division, said in a public statement recently that during its network construction efforts, Unicom took steps to ensure that grey market handsets would be able to use its WCDMA network.
Lin Qiang, smartphone products division GM at Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), has said that the company will release two handset models based on Windows Mobile 6.5 in China this month: the X60, customized for China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH), and the X70, customized for China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK).
