CR-Nielsen: China's Sept Internet Advertising Up 84% YoY

Internet traffic monitoring firm CR-Nielsen has released its September 2009 report on the Chinese online advertising market. According to the report, the Chinese online display ad market was worth RMB 1.77 bln in September, up 84.38% year-on-year and 17.8% month-on-month. September saw 9,634 advertising campaigns by 3,019 advertisers using 25,350 advertisements. These numbers represent month-on-month increases of 19.5%, 15.9%, and 34.1%, respectively; and year-on-year increases of 38.5%, 32.0%, and 54.8%, respectively.

Automobiles, computers and electronics, and entertainment were the top online advertising industries, accounting for 17.8%, 12.7%, and 9.5% of the total online advertising market, respectively. Spending on automobile and computer and electronics advertisements were up 60.4% and 83.4%, respectively. Spending on entertainment, fashion, and fast-moving consumer goods dropped from their August levels, with fashion ad spend falling 27.5%.

Chinese dating site Jiayuan.com, Hyundai Motors, and China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) were the three largest online advertisers, spending approximately RMB 37 mln, 34 mln, and 33 mln, respectively.
