Google Denies Rumor of China Server Withdrawal

Sina Tech, 10/23/09

A Google China public relations spokesperson has denied a rumor that Google would remove all of its servers from China, adding that Google had no such plans for server removal in the near future.

One internet data center (IDC) operator reported that it had not heard of the rumor, and added that while Google's servers are primarily housed in a 1,000+ square meter server room in Beijing C&W Technology's (600658.SH) server center, Google is currently discussing its server center plans with Shanghai-based firms.

Some industry sources say that Google is only removing old servers from China, and that the moves constitute routine IDC adjustments. Other sources, however, claim that Google is indeed preparing to remove all of its servers from China, but were not yet at liberty to disclose further details.
