MIIT: TD-SCDMA Subscribers Reach 2.5 Mln

C114, 11/02/09

Zhang Xinsheng, deputy director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) Department of Science and Technology, has said that by the end of October a total of 199 TD-SCDMA network access permits had been issued, including 88 permits for TD-SCDMA mobile phones and 28 for HSDPA-capable devices. "Far more network access permits have been issued for TD-SCDMA devices than for devices for other network types," said Zhang. "China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) already has 2.5 mln TD-SCDMA subscribers, and reaching the target of 3 mln subscribers by the end of the year won't be a problem."

Editor's Note: As of October 9, MIIT had issued 192 TD-SCDMA terminal network access permits, including permits for 83 mobile phones, 89 data cards, and 20 wireless wireline terminals.
