GAPP: WoW Penalties to Be Announced Soon

Beijing Youth Daily, 11/04/09

In an interview, an employee at China's General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) said that under current law, GAPP has the right to treat Chinese internet company Netease's (Nasdaq: NTES) operation of World of Warcraft as illegal. The employee said GAPP would announce the sanctions it plans to take against the company in the near future.

A spokesperson for Netease said in an interview that the matter would depend on interactions between the Ministry of Culture (MoC) and GAPP, and that Netease's views on the matter could not be taken as authoritative.
