Netease Launches IM for MMO

Chinese online gaming operator and developer Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) has released a new in-game chat tool, "Netease CC," featuring voice chat functionality. "Netease CC" was developed as an MMORPG voice chat tool by Netease's Hangzhou R&D unit. A spokesperson for the product said the voice chat client will always be free to users, and will be available in in-game and standalone versions.

The product is still currently in beta testing, and offers only temporary chat rooms for teams of gamers; permanent chat rooms and other functionality will be released in later versions. Chat rooms offer the option of playing music from gamers' local files or online music files for listening or karaoke functionality.
