Shanghai GAPP Denies Netease Shutdown Order

National Business Daily, 11/24/09

On November 23, deputy director Cheng Songqing of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Press and Publication said that his agency has "so far not received any document from the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) ordering any punitive action regarding the World of Warcraft affair." Cheng did not reveal whether Shanghai GAPP had been in phone contact with WoW operator Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) or Netease CEO William Ding, saying only that specifics will be handled by GAPP's department of Technology and Digital Publishing.
