China Mobile, RIM to Launch TD-SCDMA Blackberry

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) and Blackberry maker Research in Motion (RIM) jointly announced that they will release Blackberry smartphones supporting TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE, and plan to launch Blackberry personal services and new Blackberry smartphones in China, targeting small and medium-sized enterprises and professional customers. China Mobile and RIM also said that they will add more localized content and applications to the China Blackberries, and will work to develop a range of applications based on the demands of Chinese users.

Editor's Note: China Mobile chairman Wang Jianzhou revealed that the TD-SCDMA edition of the Blackberry will offer internet services including social networking site (SNS) access and e-mail. Wang said individual users will be able to start using TD-SCDMA-based Blackberry services next year.
