Rumor: Motorola to Launch TD-LTE Network in Beijing

Tencent Tech, 12/16/09

According to internal sources, Motorola's TD-LTE network will officially enter commercial use by the end of the year. Motorola's TD-LTE network has already passed China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) basic evaluations to allow it to move from the laboratory to outdoor operations.

According to the source, Motorola is currently conducting a final location selection for the network in suburban Beijing. Chipset and terminal manufacturers will participate in this evaluation, after which Motorola will deploy TD-LTE test sites to three major cities whose locations are still being determined.

Editor's Note: Last month, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) selected Motorola as its primary TD-LTE solutions partner for indoor network coverage at the Shanghai 2010 World Expo. For more information, please see "China Mobile Selects Motorola as Expo TD-LTE Partner," MD 11/17/09 issue.
