China Starts Rural Appliance Program Bidding

Beijing Times, 1/04/10

On January 1, China's Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced the start of bidding to provide products in 12 categories for China's rural home appliances subsidy program, according to the official program website. The notice states that price ceilings for each product category will increase substantially, with the maximum prices for TV sets and handsets doubling to RMB 7,000 and RMB 2,000 respectively. Subsidies, however, will remain unchanged at no more than 13% of 2009's maximum prices.
