Netease Launches Mobile Number Mail

PR Newswire, 1/06/10

Chinese Internet company Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) has launched mobile phone number e-mail addresses, allowing users to register an e-mail account with their phone number followed by "@163.com." The mail accounts support any number issued by China's major mobile operators, and the mobile phone mail address can be linked to the user's original 163.com e-mail address. Users do not need to register their accounts in advance in order to begin receiving mail, as the account will be automatically registered upon receipt of an e-mail. Mail sent to an unopened account will be stored for seven days, during which time the recipient can log into his new e-mail account and read the e-mail. If the recipient does not want to receive e-mail via his mobile phone number account, he can simply choose not to activate it.

Netease 163.com mail representatives have also revealed that Netease will release a mobile phone mail client to automatically access the user's phone e-mail address without any setup.
