China Mobile to Complete 3-Year TD-SCDMA Plan in 2
Sohu IT, 1/13/10
At China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) 2010 annual work meeting held today, CEO Wang Jianzhou said that as of the end of 2009 there were 5.51 mln TD-SCDMA subscribers serviced by 87,000 base stations. In outlining work plans for 2010, Wang said that the company's TD-SCDMA rollout would be finished ahead of schedule, with work originally planned for the next two years to be completed by the end of 2010. Wang said that China Mobile will build an additional 70,000 base stations and complete its TD-SCDMA network's transition into an IP network, thereby improving coverage and increasing the integration of its 2G and 3G networks.
Editor's Note: In 2009 China Mobile released a three-year plan in which TD-SCDMA coverage would extend to every city nationwide by 2011. Wang's announcement is a merger of the company's 2010 and 2011 goals, meaning the company will complete its three-year plan by the end of 2010.
