ZTE: 3 Mln TD-SCDMA Terminals Shipped in 2009

China Business News, 1/22/10

Luo Zhongsheng, TD-SCDMA handset GM at Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), has announced that in 2009 ZTE shipped 3 mln TD-SCDMA terminals, up over 10x from the previous year. Luo estimated that TD-SCDMA terminal shipments would double in 2010, for up to 6 mln units shipped.

Luo also said that ZTE released over 30 TD-SCDMA terminal models in 2009, and plans to release over 30 in 2010. Handsets and wireless wireline terminals each accounted for roughly 40% of ZTE's total TD-SCDMA terminal shipments last year, while data cards accounted for the remaining 20%.

Editor's Note: Netease Tech reported that ZTE also simultaneously released four new TD-SCDMA handsets yesterday: the U720, U600, U230 and U215. Luo said the U720 and U600 were developed under China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) RMB 600 Mln TD-SCDMA Handset R&D Fund. The U600 and U215 are also China Mobile operator-customized handsets.
