Hunan Satellite TV Starts Trial HD Broadcasts

Sohu IT, 2/26/10

Hunan Satellite TV began trial broadcasts of its HD film and television programming channel on the afternoon of February 25. Trial broadcasts of Hunan Satellite's HD Huaxia Juchang ("China Theatre") channel began several days ago, and trials of its HD entertainment channel are upcoming.

A spokesperson for Hunan Satellite TV parent company Golden Eagle Broadcasting System (GBS) said that in the testing stage, the three new HD channels will only be available to a small proportion of authorized viewers of Changsha-based network operator Guo'an Cable. The channels currently broadcast only four hours per day of test programming. In August, the company will begin commercial operation of the channels using the Sinosat-3 satellite to relay its signal. GBS is reportedly in talks with TopV Digital TV Media and China DTV Media, both major programming operators, regarding the possibility of bringing their content to its viewers. No further information is currently available.
