Rumor: CCTV.com to Obtain First Internet TV License

Sina Tech, 3/24/10

Chinese media news portal lmtw.com has reported that Internet TV licenses, long the subject of industry speculation, will be officially issued soon, with the first license going to CCTV.com.

CCTV.com's Internet TV license application has already been approved internally by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), and will be announced this week at the earliest.

Internet TV licenses differ from IPTV licenses in that the medium of transmission is the Internet, rather than a special-purpose network.
