Rumor: SMIC to Transfer Chengdu Facility to TI

An industry source close to Chinese semiconductor manufacturer Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) (NYSE: SMI, 0981.HK) has told foreign media that SMIC plans to transfer management and operations of its 8" wafer production facility in Chengdu to US firm Texas Instruments.

Multiple sources close to both companies confirmed reports that the two are in negotiations.

A SMIC executive refused to comment, saying that any news should be announced by the Chengdu office. A source for the Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone investment services department could not reveal any information. Texas Instrument could not be reached for comment.
